Tax Protests, Bus Tours, and Texas Secession

There are some interesting things that are occurring in the news that are being overshadowed by the new dog at the White House, Michelle's vegetable garden, and Octomom.  They are so subtle that it's easy to dismiss them, but have inside them the potential for massive transformation in the country over the next decade or so.

All successful Revolutions begin with discontent and end with redesign.  Along the way, some structures get redone, some lives get changed, some people die, and some cultures disappear.  It's just the nature of things to change over time.  Whether it's the colonists in 1776 or the Civil Rights movement in 1967, discontent among the vast unwashed millions does not ferment long before it boils over.  Add an efficient, highly leveraged organization/communication tool like the Internet and not only can you have a protest a day, you can initiate change at the government level with huge efficiency.

We have three revolutionary seeds that appeared in the last month that have been seriously overlooked:  (1)  The AIG Bus Tour, (2) The Tax Day Protests, and (3) The Texas Secession Idea..  Let's take a look at these and see if you see the same thing I do.

(1) The AIG Bus Tour-  AIG is like the Dennis Rodman of Corporations.  The tragedy in the AIG mess is not the bonus scenario.  The bonuses were just a misdirection effort upon the part of the AIG execs.  The real tragedy is that these morons were able to run up billions of dollars of  risk management liabillity, unsupervised in their own company or by the Federal Regulators, and then waltz into the Treasury and say: " We've made some decisions that will bankrupt our company and bring down the entire world financial system.  We think 150 billion will fix it.  Can you just wire that in asap?"  Without so much as a " Gosh, how'd you come up with that number?", both the Bush and the Obama administration bought this pack of hoo ha and wire transferred money just like it was a Christmas Club withdrawal request.  Only it was our Christmas Club they withdrew it from.

The people who took the bus tour to the AIG Executive Neighborhoods were the first step in the average American beginning to protect themselves.  While they didn't shoot through windows, if the recession and job loss that they are feeling now continues, my bet is that the window shooting will start fairly soon.  Take health care, jobs, and the future away from the bottom one third of the society and not only do homes get shot at, but cities burn...and politicians hang or go back to restroom duty in Minneapolis..

(2) Tax Protests:  The Tax Day Tea Party protests were funny and got some coverage this year.  They won't be funny when they quadruple in size over the next five years.  They won't be funny when someone organizes en mass an effort of 60 million people not to file income tax returns and demand an overhaul of the system.   They won't be funny when those same 60 million people refuse to pay the Medicaid Tax or contribute to Social Security.  The real tax in the country is government regulation and incompetence.

The fact of the matter is that the IRS is way past it's sell by date as an effective organization.  As a lawyer and a tax payer , I can tell you that IRS personnel for the most part are acrimonious towards taxpayers, in some cases ignorant of the issues they are attempting to resolve, and allowed way too much leeway in the amount of unsupervised harassment activity they can inflict. As someone who spent over 50K to sue them on my personal behalf nearly 3 years ago, I can tell you that the only difference in meeting with them and the drug cartel boss is that the light was better. We have caught them in lies, inaccuracies, faulty investigation, and  unscrupulous personal and business judgments.    Replace them with a sales tax or ad valorum tax.  Even the drug dealers have to eat. Collect the tax at Grocery Stores, Convenience Marts, Wal-Mart, and JC Penney.  It works for Sales Tax.

(3) Texas Secession:  The tenth amendment to the United States Constitution suggests that the states, in the end, should control their destiny.  It's interesting that Texas is the first state to really get ticked off over this.  Remember, that this is a state that has the Alamo as a shrine.  Autonomy, Freedom, and Independence, are in the DNA of Texans.  Buckshot is in their blood as well.  My sense is that if Washington keeps pressing, it will have an experience with both of those.  My advice is for Texas to become the new Quebec.  In it's ports are oil, natural gas, Tex-Mex, and access to Lance Armstrong.  By itself, it equals the economy of France.  Shut Texas down and California becomes Vermont.

So, what's Washington going to do if we ask it to back off?   Let Washington fight global conflicts, build interstate highway systems, and protect us from aliens.   Raise tax money to do those things.  Leave the rest of our destiny to each of us to work out..

Tell your congressperson that you're going to opt out of wealth transfer via increased taxes..  Tell them that you'll do it peacefully if you can and not so peaceful if you have to.  Tell them if you opt for the latter, that it won't be a good idea to walk by their windows.

If they're not sure how all this looks if they don't change it, tell them to stop by the Alamo as they leave Texas.
